Preparing for the Installation Process
June 21, 2011Designer Showcase: Robert Crellen with Cabinets & Designs
July 5, 2011The movement toward trans-generational and universal home design has ushered in a new era of innovation in the bath industry. The concept of “aging in place” is taking hold, but today’s home owner doesn’t simply want to age in place, they want to age with grace—and that extends to a desire to have elegant, stylish options when renovating their homes. Companies like Kohler and Moen are leading the way by offering consumers beautifully designed products that will look gorgeous and prove functional as you age in your home, or as multi-generations come to live in your home. We want to share some of our favorites from the latest in cutting-edge tub and shower innovations.
Elevance Rising Wall Bath
You may remember this product from a previous blog post about KBIS. The Elevance tub is designed to allow the user to sit and swing their legs in and out of the tub, via a side panel that moves vertically. This tub fits easily into a standard 5’ alcove space. The Elevance tub meets all ADA specifications, but rather than looking “institutional,” creates a beautiful, spa-like space in your bathroom.
Kohler DVT Prompt Shower System
For total control in the shower, we recommend the DVT Prompt Shower system by Kohler. This digital shower system allows you to control water temperature and usage in the shower. The DVT Prompt is flexible, working with many components on one or two outlets, including hand showers, bodysprays, bath fillers, Rainheads, and more—and you can change them at the push of a button. The DVT Prompt Shower system is available in four finishes to compliment your bathroom décor: Black, Satin Chrome, Satin Nickel or White.
Kohler Lithocast Free Standing Bathtub
The Lithocast Free Standing Bathtubs are the definition of the word “innovation.” These tubs are made of premium, solid-surface materials which “allow for new geometries, textures and designs for the modern bath.” These beautiful bathtubs offer the look of real stone without the cold “feel”; instead the materials are warm and comfortable against the skin. The Lithocast tubs are modern, yet classic-looking, and are also easy-to-clean.
Moen Grab Bars
The words “sleek” and “unassuming” best describe the new bathroom grab bars by industry leader Moen. Grab bars that double as towel racks and soap dishes provide dual function, but the streamlined design and beautiful materials make them stylish enough to contribute to the “form” of your bathroom. We especially love the paper holder that doubles as a grab bar—what looks like a simple, contemporary line actually functions as a safety feature. Amazing!
The Nirvana Bathtub with LED Lighting
Featuring touch controls and a motion-activated hand shower, the Nirvana Bathtub with LED Lighting is a conceptual marvel, with LED lights embedded in the surface of the bathtub—360 LED lights, to be exact. The tub’s shape results in a reduction of water use (to the tune of 60% less water used!) and the tub design received a Red Dot Award in 2009 for product design.
